Currently there are somewhere between 200 and 300 monasteries in Romania. They are mostly placed in idyllic locations such as forests.
   
    The Romanian art of mural paintings and icons is inspired by Byzantine models and has remained the same for many centuries. Many of these churches or monasteries are covered in paintings both on the inside and outside.        

    They are a beautiful view, and a reminder of strong religious vocation of the Romanian people.
